Birdathon — Eastside Audubon Society

Eastside Audubon’s Birdathon 2025

Join us for our most rewarding fundraiser of the year, Birdathon! Count birds as a team, attend a birding trip, or make a donation to support our chapter’s conservation, education, and advocacy work. Birdathon happens every Spring and is Eastside Audubon’s biggest fundraiser.

Whether you are just getting started or an avid birder, everyone can make a difference for birds this year by taking part in this exciting event. Flock with us this May!

What is Birdathon?

Birdathon is like a walkathon, a bike-a-thon, or dance-a-thon. It’s a way to put the fun in fundraising by getting lots of people excited about conservation. Like a walkathon, participants gather pledges from friends, family, work colleagues, and others who want to help Eastside Audubon keep providing the great programs we offer the community. Our Big Day teams are asking for support and donations as they count every bird species they see during the Spring migration. Audubon chapters all over the country hold this entertaining and creative event during the month of May.

What Your Gift Supports

The funds we raise during Birdathon support our annual programming and help us continue the important work we do in the community.

Last year, we reached out to children and adults at various schools and events to educate the public about the beauty of birds. We planted and cared for hundreds of native trees and shrubs in Marymoor Park. We provided numerous field trips. Our conservation advocacy group continues to communicate with Washington State Legislators and local city governments. Our volunteers are in the field hosting bird trips. All of this made possible by your contributions.

This year, we have already given away hundreds of trees to landowners to plant in their yards and have partnered with another nonprofit to plant “mini-forests” in degraded areas around our service areas. You can help support our continued work in the East King County area by participating in our upcoming Birdathon events.

How to Get Involved

There are a variety of ways you can get involved and support our fundraising efforts!

Support a Big Day Team

A big day is an annual birding event organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and eBird, where groups or individuals go out one day in May and count as many birds as possible. The data counted during the Big Day helps with conservation data and efforts.

Eastside Audubon has two Big Day Teams: Pelican Dive Bar, led by Jeremy Lucas that focused on seabirds, and Bird Brains, led by Jim Rettig who will be counting in Ontario and Ohio.

If you would like to motivate the teams to count as many birds as possible, click down below to head to their page, which has information on supporting!

Thank You!

Thank you for your generous support of birds and their habitat. Your continued efforts of volunteering, participating, and supporting Eastside Audubon helps us keep the birds singing!
