Youth Education Workshops and Lesson Plans on Demand

Thanks to Tyler Hartje, the Eastside Audubon website has an updated and impressive new look. The Youth Education Committee (YEC) is especially grateful because we created a new section entitled Resources for Teachers and Parents. First, let me take you through our established pages. We begin with our most popular page, Classroom Workshops. Do you know a teacher or a youth group who would like a presentation? Then look no further than these pages where you will find a list of 13 workshops that range from Bird Identification to Migration and anything in between. In addition, teachers and parents can borrow The Bird Discovery Box by calling the Eastside Audubon office or emailing youtheducation@eastsideaudubon.org. It contains a multitude of lesson plans for kindergarten through high school and the materials necessary to teach them.  

Family Bird Walks directs you to the Eastside Audubon home page where you will find upcoming events on the calendar, including bird walks geared to the young and not-so-young. There follows information on our scholarships and grants. High school seniors need to pay close attention to the Brian Gershon College Scholarship for which they may qualify. The scholarship application is online.  

And finally, you reach our newest pages: Resources for Teachers and Parents. Do you want to locate the best places to see birds on the Eastside? Or are you more interested in outdoor activities and websites about birds? Looking for books for your second grader or wondering how to introduce your sixth-grade students to nature? Check out our resource pages for children and adults. We are sure you will find them helpful. 

Maybe you are a person interested in giving back to your community. The Youth Education Committee invites you to check us out by coming to a meeting on the first Tuesday of every month (except for August and December). More information can be had on the calendar. You may find a perfect fit with this dedicated and diverse group of volunteers.
