Board of Directors Names New Executive Director

Eastside Audubon Names Sheila Ritchie as New Executive Director

Eastside Audubon’s Board of Directors hired Sheila Ritchie as executive director in August 2018 to lead the organization, after the resignation of Tereza Marks earlier in the year. Sheila comes to the chapter from Woodinville’s Homeward Pet Adoption Center, where she managed fundraising.

Eastside Audubon’s Board President, Lori Danielson remarked, “We value Sheila’s non-profit experience along with her communication and fundraising skills. We feel those are necessary for increasing our positive impact for birds and habitat preservation on the Eastside.” Recognizing that Eastside Audubon’s programs are achieved through the work of volunteers, the board counts on Sheila’s leadership and coordination with volunteers to multiply our impacts.  

Sheila oversees the daily operations and fundraising efforts of Eastside Audubon. With more than 15 years’ experience in driving nonprofit membership and fundraising efforts, she is eager to advance the important work of Eastside Audubon. Sheila aims to build on the chapter's conservation efforts, advocacy work, educational curriculum, and public outreach programs in order to preserve natural areas and maintain critical habitats throughout the eastside of Lake Washington.  

Sheila's love for birds developed early during her family's many guided bird walks. Her exposure to hiking and camping at a young age created a lifelong appreciation for her natural environment. Sheila still gets that same childhood thrill when a hummingbird visits her feeder or while taking in many of Washington's breathtaking views. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Human Services from the University of Delaware, Sheila built her career serving a wide range of nonprofit organizations. She is delighted to combine her love for wildlife and professional experience to further the goals of Eastside Audubon.
