As a long-time board member, Brian Gershon was instrumental in bringing Eastside Audubon into the technology age by developing the chapter’s first website in 1997. In 2004, Eastside Audubon’s Board of Directors established the Brian Gershon College Scholarship Fund to support graduating high school students who have demonstrated a commitment to science with special emphasis on the environment and who plan to pursue these interests at the college level.

Thanks to members’ donations, the Youth Education Committee offers two college scholarships annually for high school seniors. This year, the Board increased the amount of each scholarship to $2,000. The students are chosen based on the following:

Keen interest in the environment/nature
Involvement in extra-curricular environmental/nature activities
College plans
Teacher or counselor recommendation
