A School Garden Comes to Life

A School Garden Comes to Life

Thanks to Eastside Audubon members’ generous donations, the Youth Education Committee annually awards teacher grants of $450 to two schools. Over the years, the funds have been used for a variety of purposes. During the 2018-19 school year, Sherwood Forest Elementary in the Bellevue School District created a garden with the grant. Students were involved in all aspects from planning to planting to harvesting to sampling. The results are impressive as you can see from the photos. The garden was a great teacher as students got their hands dirty and learned where their vegetables come from: seeds, not a plastic container!
