April’s program night with Jen Mannas was amazing! Jen discussed her research as a wildlife ecologist studying the marine mammals and seabirds as well as working as a naturalist guide in Antarctica. Check out her two part presentation below!

Jen Mannas spoke about her incredible research in Antarctica. Jen is a wildlife ecologist who spent eight seasons studying the marine mammals and seabirds as well as working as a naturalist guide in Antarctica. She presented her experiences working and living in the frozen south, including numerous pictures and field details of the three species of brushtail penguins that inhabit the Antarctic Peninsula. This presentation explores her breathtaking photos of the Antarctic landscape, mammals, and seabirds.

Jen has an extensive and diverse wildlife ecology background, which has included everything from working with California condors to mountain lions. In 2006, she realized her passion for polar environments while living in a remove field camp outside of McMurdo Station in Antarctica, working on a Weddell seal population study for her Master’s project. She currently works for a non-profit in the human services sector in Seattle but continues to remain active in the marine conservation field, as well as working part-time for SR3 who is opening the first SeaLife Rescue Center in the northwest region and works seasonally as a Penguinologist for Penguin Watch.
